Questions Answers
Why isn't there a skatepark in Lakewood? According to the city, a skatepark has been planned to be built at Lakewood Park. In December, 2002, an architect was hired to help design the park.
Where will the skatepark be located? As part of the Lakewood Park Master Plan, the skate park will be located on the south of the tennis courts and north of the Old Stone House.
How can I share my own ideas/concerns for the park? Attend any and all LSA and public meetings. Your involvement is crucial to the success of the park. Sign up as a member so we may keep you updated on any events or updates to the process.
Who is designing the park? So far the city has retained the architecture firm Brandstetter, Carrol, & Zofcin, Inc. to do the design. They have worked on other Lakewood projects in the past. For this project they have been working with the city's Skatepark Design Committee which consists of experienced local skaters and park designers.
Will the new park be concrete or Pre-Fab? The park will be concrete.
Will a professional skatepark designer/contractor be working on our park? As of now, no professional designer/contractor has been hired. While the architect has had some experience designing a skatepark, they do not specialize in skateparks and so an experienced skatepark counsultant/contractor will be needed to help consult on the plans.
Will you need to have helmets/pads, etc? The safety gear requirements have yet to be determined. But following the example by other public parks and facilities, protective equipment is strongly suggested but is not required to skate. There will be set rules for participation but it is up to the skaters themselves to make sure others respect the rules and the park as a whole. The city is allowing us to self police the park and report any negative or destructive behavior.
What time(s) will the park be open? The park will be open park hours which is sunrise to dusk. Lighting will be installed as well.
Will bikes be allowed in the park? No. The city voted to create a skateboard and rollerblade park as an addition to Lakewood Park. This decision was made by the park planners for the city and was voted on 3 years ago. The LSA wasn't even in existence at this time.
