LSA Softball Tournament!
Saturday, June 28th, 2003 - As the first offcial LSA fundraiser event of the summer, the Softball Tournament was a grand slam! We had 7 teams play for what must be the most unique softball trophies ever. Many others stopped by to watch as skatepark supporters from around the area spent about 6 hours in typical double elimination tournament style competition.

But thats were the similarties to any other softball tournament end. Teams made up of "real" soft-ball players, skaters, rock bands, moms, dads, kids, and others from as far away as Akron braved the heat, dust, and sun to raise money for the skatepark.

The teams were The Pimpin' All-Stars, Westside Hooligans, Freedonia, the Skidmarks, Nightrangers and two teams made up of extras: The MisFits and the Stragglers.

Enjoy...

The Teams...

Westside "Hooligans" (sponsored by West Side Skates) dropped some hammers in a different sport but were reportedly feeling it the next day since skaters rarely work their "running muscles" anymore. They walked home with 3rd place for the day.

"The Pimpin All-Stars". Who are these guys? They came. They saw. They beat down the competition with the most active bats and a vacuum-like outfield. They played hard but kept it fun even sharing some of their team when the opposing side was short. But make no mistake - no one on this team can drop in on a mini ramp.

"The Skidmarks" came in from around Cleveland and Akron and with one of the smaller teams put together an impressive showing until they had to leave due to prior commitents for some of their players.

"Freedonia" (Sponsored by Tom George for Mayor) came out with a good mix of talent and lots of strategy. Even going as far as drawing walks to load the bases for their clean up batters. The ploy worked and they took home the coveted 2nd Place trophy.

The Nightrangers - Rock band "The Sign-Offs" organized under the name of a now obscure 80s band. Even after rocking through May at fundraising shows, these guys spent a good six hours rocking the softball diamond. Turns out a few of the "real" softball players didn't take to the outfits these guys wore. But after pointing out that at least they weren't wearing stirrups, the discussion ended. Rock on!

The Second and First Place Trophies. Who wants a shiny trophy you can pick up at any trophy store when you can have one that Stosh spent hours creating?

The Pimpin All-Stars receive their trophy 7 hours after they showed up!
